This form of remembrance makes visible the route that many prisoners of the Ravensbrück women’s concentration camp were forced to take. With the help of clearly visible stencil motifs, this route is marked — a path that remained unmarked for a long time. During the preparations for the redesign of the main exhibition in 2012, the IRK developed the idea of installing a permanent route marking.
Since then, the markings have been printed annually on pedestrian and bicycle paths, always one day before the beginning of the liberation commemorations. They consist of three different symbols. Over the years, various groups of students, together with their teachers, have participated in carrying out the project. Since 2022, trainees from the Ernst Litfaß School Berlin have taken on this task, supported by the tireless commitment of Ingo Grollmus, vocational school teacher in the printing workshop.
The stencils are applied on a white background and depict three motifs: a red rose, grey barbed wire, and the blue-and-white striped prisoner clothing.
